The New River is just below the cabin and is great for canoeing, tubing and fishing. Tranquility is just 5 minutes from Lansing, 10 minutes from Jefferson, and 45 minutes from the Boone area. Situated in the northwestern part of Ashe County you're also close to the Virginia Creeper - North Carolina and Virginia's premier mountain biking trail, which stretches 34 miles from Abingdon, down thru the lovely town of Damascus, along the Whitetop Laurel River and up to its highest point at Whitetop Station, near the NC state line. The Virginia Creeper Trail is open year-round to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Don't miss this ride - a blast for the whole family, with several bike rental shops to serve you. And don't forget to take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, for some of the country's most awe-inspiring views. You'll understand how our mountains got their name! For some winter fun, head to one of our three most popular ski resorts: Appalachian Ski Mtn, Sugar Mtn, or Beech Mtn.

If you’re dreaming of a snowy mountain winter vacation, you've also come to the right place. Enjoy sledding, snowboarding, skating - and of course skiing - all winter long. Or watch the snow fall softly and serenely outside, while you're cozy in the cabin!

The private driveway is graveled, so an all-wheel drive, four-wheel drive or front-wheel drive is recommended for accessing the cabin.

Small to medium dogs are welcomed with notice at booking and payment of a $75 per pet fee. (Limit 2 pets)

What a view of the river!

Rachel C. from Rochester, NH, US
Stayed 2 days ending May 2024

My friend and I rented this cabin one weekend so we could run a race. The cabin was easy to find and came fully stocked with towels and cooking supplies. The driveway is steep and very difficult to get up if it is raining. We have a 4x4 suv and ended up parking at the bottom of the hill while it was raining due to difficulty getting up the driveway. The exercise room is very dated and has the supplies in the pics. There is air conditioning, but it was being fixed while we were there. The company is great with reminders and is very responsive to any questions or concerns. The house also has a beautiful view of the river. Overall it was a positive experience.

Manager Responded on 5/22/2024

Thank you for leaving a review of your recent stay at Tranquility. Unfortunately, we had heavy rains before and during your stay. The driveway is being repaired as soon as weather permits. AC is in and working. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and look foward to your next stay.

The house was exactly as it was in the picture. It was the perfect place for me and my dog to relax. We did some hiking at Greyson Highlands, Mount Jefferson and even the Creeper Trail in Lansing. The internet supported the online work I had to do. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location, tricky driveway

Raymond P. from Chester, VA, US
Stayed 3 days ending November 2022

Overall, the property was very nice, has a great wrap around deck on the back and the upstairs bedroom was a comfortable.
We didn't use the downstairs bedroom and only went in the game room once for a few games of foosball.
The driveway is definitely designed for 4 wheel drive. When we were there it was covered in about an inch of wet leaves. It was like driving on ice and we actually started sliding down the hill. I found a rake in the garage and cleared the entire driveway.
Great views and sounds of the rivers/creeks below, and the deck looked over them and was a great spot to grill or have coffee. There was a critter or two in the crawl space behind the master bedroom that seemed to like to move around about 3am every morning. Would have like to have had a shower in the upstairs bathroom versus having to go to the downstairs bathroom to shower. Kitchen looks like it's in the process of some upgrades, but the whole house had a "commercial" feel to it. Not like you were staying at someone's home, more of an extended stay hotel.

Thank you for leaving a review of your recent stay at Tranquility. The leaves have fallen and the driveway has been scraped to remove all the leaves possible but being in the mountains that is hard to control. The owner is working to add more artwork to the home. We do hope you will stay with us again.

Private wooded lot

Rhonda W. from Cranberry Twp., PA, US
Stayed 3 days ending October 2022

Great, well kept cabin-close to Churches of the Frescoes, Grayson Highlands and VA Creeper Trail. Clean cabin with well stocked kitchen. Previous reviews about basement area being moldy, did not apply to us, as we were 2 single adults looking for a base camp for outdoor activities. We didn’t use the game room, so we cannot comment. Pleasant stay!

VERY Nice getaway!!

LES L. from TAYLORSVILLE, NC
Stayed 5 days ending August 2020

My wife and myself really needed some time away from work. After researching online I found Carolina Mountain Properties. Everything went smoothly. Was a nice little house. Clean and quite. Only fallback was the basement. Had musty smell. So we didn't use the Foosball table. Other than that we had a great time!! Driveway a little bit tight for a large truck like mine. But we managed.

Manager Responded on 10/22/2020

Thank you for leaving a review of your recent stay at Tranquility. We are working with the owner to resolve the musty smell in the basement. We do hope you will stay with us again.

Enjoyable Four Days

Anonymous from Davidson, NC, US
Stayed 4 days ending October 2020

We spent four days at Tranquility. The cabin was fully furnished with everything you might need. A small snaffu getting in but management company was instantly responsive. Spent a lot of time on deck with its beautiful view. Short drive 10-15 minutes to charming West Jefferson. Nice trail along river in Lansing which is 2 miles away. Lots of fly fishing opportunities. Management company was great to work with. Suggest bringing your own towels. Definitely recommend.

Nice Getaway

Chrissi C. from Wilmington, NC, US

The view is beautiful. For folks that have pets, there is a dog park really close to the property, so that was a plus. All appliances worked properly. Property was clean. We would stay here again.

Pleasantly Surprised

Odell M. from Siler City, NC, US
Stayed 3 days ending October 2020

Tranquil, Calm, Relaxing, Quiet. A lovely spot to get away. The very steep drive was no problem for my Crosstrek, but a front wheel drive vehicle might have difficulties. Overall a very comfortable cabin. Would love to see appliance upgrades in the kitchen. A convection toaster oven would be ideal. Just about everything you need. Some tongs and grill utensils would be nice. We would definitely return

Cute Little Cabin

Sandra C. from New Bern, NC
Stayed 2 days ending October 2020

This cabin is in a perfect location, secluded yet close to Jefferson and West Jefferson. The property looked very clean when we arrived, however we did notice spider webs. We also caught quite a few stink bugs, I think it was the season for them. Things we loved... the fireplace and the firewood in the garage, the location, the view of the river, the tree close to the deck(beautiful yellow leaves), very close to Witche's Tree, and the artifacts from Lansing Elementary School (COOL). Some things that would of made our stay more pleasant: an iron and ironing board, hairdryer, hot tub, a shower upstairs would of been nice and a dehumidifier in the game room, which we did not even use because of the musky smell. Overall we had a pleasant stay, it rained the whole time we were here but we did venture into West Jefferson and tried the brew at Boondocks which was Awesome. We ate at Mountain Aire Seafood & Steaks....DELICIOUS!! Thanks for letting us use your cabin for a weekend, we had a lovely time.

Mtn Getaway

Anonymous from Durham, NC, US
Stayed 3 days ending July 2020

We had a nice stay at Tranquility and will make plans to return. Great location near the New River, short drive from Jefferson, and only a few minutes from Lansing (groceries, several small restaurants). The house is comfortable - it could have used another cleaning before we arrived - there were a number of spider webs we walked through when we first arrived. The kitchen is pretty well stocked for a could really use some newer drinking glasses, but we were thrilled to see lots of almost new, and really good cook ware (pots/pans). The downstairs (basement) “playroom” with a tv and foosball table really wasn’t a usable space - it was very musty and not pleasant - at least not for our 10 yr old. Overall, we’ll likely return again and were pleased with Tranquility.

Manager Responded on 7/16/2020

Thank you for leaving a review of your stay at Tranquility. We do wish you had contacted us during your stay regarding the cleaniness. We will be checking on adding drinking glasses and the game room room as well. We look forward to having you stay with us again.
